Shavuot Community Events 2011

What is it?

Tikkun Leil Shavuot
From Sunset to Dawn, Tuesday, June 7 through Wednesday, June 8
Shavuot is traditionally considered to be the anniversary of the giving of the Torah on Mt. Sinai. Tikkun Leil Shavuot (“a fixed set of readings for the night of Shavuot”) is the custom of staying up all night and studying. Tikkun Leil Shavuot was developed by sixteenth century Kabbalists in Safed, Israel, who believed that by studying texts the evening of Shavuot, they were preparing to re-enter a sacred relationship with God.
