Rosh Hashanah! A new year! What a great time to be together with family, to eat, tell stories and create memories. What if you’re not Jewish but you’re responsible for your family’s holiday celebrations? Maybe you are Jewish, but you haven’t found a way to make Rosh Hashanah feel fun. Join us to cook, share recipes, ideas and activities to make a fabulous holiday for you and your loved ones!

Kindergym and Toddler Classes in Oakland
Drop-in Kindergym and sign-up Toddler classes at Temple Beth Abraham have resumed for the fall term. Dawn Margolin has been leading her wonderful drop-in Kindergym and session Toddler classes for the community for the past 28 years. ALL families are welcome here to enjoy play time with their little ones! One sibling under 3 is FREE!
Have fun with playdough, art, climbers and slides, a big ball pit, music, parachute play and lots more.

This is a wonderful place to meet other Jewish moms and non-Jewish moms, many in interfaith relationships. Some people like to pick the Friday session because Dawn does Shabbat with the class.

Tot Shabbat
Welcome Shabbat with other young families! Each month we will have a special half-hour Shabbat service geared to families with children six and under. Come join us for singing, games and fun! All Are Welcome! Bring Your Friends!

Tutor a Child
Pass on Your Love of Reading: Give just one hour a week to help a child.
In response to the overwhelming number of Bay Area school children reading below grade level, the Jewish Coalition for Literacy (JCL) trains, places and supports volunteer reading tutors working with students in grades K-3.

Mesibah! Family Fun Day: Rosh Hashanah
“Mesibah” is the Hebrew word for party! Children ages 2-10 years old and their parents or caregivers are invited to join us for a FREE party to celebrate The Jewish New Year! There will be a bounce house, arts and crafts, healthy snacks, and storytime with PJ Library.

Ritual Laboratory: The High Holidays
Make your personal Judaica more meaningful by creating it yourself! Join the Contemporary Jewish Museum for a painting and collage workshop in which you’ll make a personal, magnetic sculpture. Express your thoughts and feeling on the coming year through art.

Congregation Beth Am’s Mother’s Circle
Are you a non-Jewish mother raising Jewish children? The Mother’s Circle is a 12-session course that explores how to create a Jewish home and make Jewish memories for your children. No temple membership is required to participate. Through our meetings, you’ll learn about Jewish holidays, customs and values. Connect with other non-Jewish mothers who share similar concerns and experiences.
The class includes resources, education, and events to support women of other religious backgrounds raising Jewish children. Join us for coffee, new friends, Jewish learning and great discussions.

The Jewish Holidays and Food Sustainability
The Jewish Studies Program and the Nutrition, Food Science and Packaging Program at San José State University are sponsoring a series of programs highlighting key aspects of food and environmental sustainability between September 2011 and April 2012.
